The C&SW System layout models the division point of Jules, IL. East and West Staging yards represent connections to rest of the world. There is also an interchange with the CB&Q just south of town.
The layout features point-to-point operation or continuous running. The layout type is commonly referred to as a spaghetti bowl on a plywood prairie. Nuthin' Fancy here. I may try to do something more creative with the proposed upper deck but trains run pretty good on flat, straight track.
Point-To-Point operations are accomplished by adding a wye track configuration off the Red line that leads to a pair of staging yards.
Continuous running consists of a single loop accomplished by adding a pair of diamonds to the traditional N-Trak mainlines that automatically route trains from the Red line to Blue line.
A second deck is in the early plannning stages. This level will be accessed by adding a helix at the end of the staging yard lead tracks. This will permit construction of a major passenger facility over the current staging yards and a significant extension of the Red line loop.
Can't wait to start construction!
So helix and second deck never happened. Kids, life, space, time...
The next generation of the C&SW is in the works. Space has been allocated and plans are being finalized.
